Despite the broad nature of the work, the amazingly erudite Eco manages to connect all of the dots and keep the major concepts and themes flowing seamlessly together as we proceed through this whirlwind tour of aesthetic ideals throughout time. After reading through the beginning, I set the book aside–it definitely doesn’t belong to the popular science genre social science sub-genre that I’d originally assigned it to after reading a synopsis.
